Ft. Jones Lions has the 41st annual Christmas parade held 12/12/09. The total amount of entries increased over the prior year and has helped to increase the funding available for Lions to assist the Fort Jones community members. The weather held up and it did not snow this year, but threatened to do so all day! Collections were made for the White Cane program by members and additional funds were collected by Lions members cooking and selling curly fries and corn dogs.
After numerous attempts to get a Xmas tree for the town, and the recent loss of a large Redwood transplant, the Lion’s club has donated a new. living tree, to the town and people of the Fort Jones community. Only about 8 - 10 feet tall now, it is on the way to becoming a large tree needing a cherry picker to decorate!
The Lions club again exceeded donations by local businesses for drawings to be won by those attending the parade. Many thanks to all the business owners who gave this year in tough economic conditions. This truly demonstrates the goodwill of the local businesses towards the community and efforts of the Lion’s club.
The Lions promote, organize, arrange, layout and host the Christmas parade each year as a community event. We are already planning the 2010 parade and anticipate it being larger than this year’s event.
